This is a 1972 Hawke DL8 Super Vee that I purchased for the sole purpose of putting it together to run the SVRA Brickyard Invitational at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Prior to starting the project, I found I was able to enter that event with the Formula First that I normally race so that is what I did. This project lost it purpose for me and was never started, so now it is just consuming space in my shop. It is in the exact condition that I purchased it in.

The Hawke DL8 was designed by David Lazenby a former mechanic for Jim Clark and principal at Lotus Components. The rear suspension mirrors the Lotus Formula 1 Indy cars of that period. The car was imported from England in the early 1970s. The DL8shares the suspension and frame design of the Hawke DL9 Formula Ford. In the Monoposto Racing Rules that cover vintage open wheel cars the Hawke DL8 is considered a Series 1 Non-Winged Formula Super Vee and would run in the SVRA Group 2. It is intended to run with a type 1 1600CC VW air-cooled engine and can run with multiple carburetors with a maximum of 40MM per cylinder. It is an interesting car and would be very fast and great fun on the track. It appears that it was driven by John Moreton at Riverside in 1972 and finished 4th. You will be the only DL8 and anyevent you show up to!

The chassis is excellent. The body work is not new, however it is also excellent. The body panels are now painted red. All the suspension is included (front uprights, rebuilt rear uprights, shocks ,springs, a frames , trailing links ). There are a transmission, and rebuilt steering box ( Lazenby ) included. The car has four new brake calipers, and all new wheel bearings. Included is an older Super Vee exhaust system in excellent condition. There is a set of wheels. The shocks are Koni and should be rebuilt. The car is a project and fully apart and needs to be assembled, it requires additional normal racecar materials to fully assembly. the engine in the photos is included it a 1300CC used for fitting purposes.

The chassis number is SCCA 10-641 . I was told this was one of two built and the only one left. A partial log book is included. This is an excellent car for vintage racing.
